How to prepare for your first injectable treatment

It is completely normal to feel a little nervous before your first injectable treatment. The good news is that good preparation makes the experience both calmer and the result better - and it takes less than you think.

How to prepare for your first injectable treatment

It is okay to be nervous

The vast majority of our first-time clients feel a little apprehensive when they sit down in the chair. It is a completely natural reaction, and it is one of the reasons we always begin with a calm conversation rather than a needle.

You set the pace, you can ask any question you like, and you can say stop at any time. A treatment should feel safe - otherwise it is not the right day for it.

The week before

A few simple things in the days beforehand can reduce the risk of bruising and swelling. These are not requirements, just good advice if they fit into your everyday life:

  • As far as possible, avoid blood thinners and painkillers such as ibuprofen for a few days beforehand, unless your doctor has prescribed them
  • Cut back on alcohol for a couple of days before
  • If it has been suggested to you, supplements such as Arnica can help some people against bruising
  • Come to the treatment well rested and ideally without a heavy cold or illness

If you are in doubt about your medication, do mention it at the consultation. We always talk through your health history before we begin.

The day before and on the day

Do eat before your appointment - it is more comfortable to be treated on a full stomach. Come without makeup if you can, or allow a couple of minutes for us to cleanse the area thoroughly.

Plan the day so you do not have intense exercise, a sauna or a big party straight afterwards. If you would prefer to keep the treatment to yourself, choose a day without important photos or big events in the days that follow.

At the consultation: how it works

With us, every treatment begins with a consultation. Here we talk about what you want, I carry out a skin analysis, and we agree on what is realistic to achieve.

This is also where we go through price, process and any side effects, so you can give informed consent. Sometimes we end up with a treatment the same day, other times I recommend waiting or choosing something else entirely.

The most important thing is that you leave the clinic feeling good about it.

During the treatment

The treatment itself is usually over quickly. We use very fine needles, and many people are surprised at how little there really is to it.

If needed, we can use numbing cream, especially on sensitive areas such as the lips. You are welcome to let us know along the way if you need a break.

The first 24 hours

After an injectable treatment, a few simple things help the result along:

  • Avoid intense exercise, saunas and direct heat for the first 24 hours
  • Do not massage or press on the area
  • Try to stay upright for the first few hours
  • Be patient - mild swelling or small bruises are normal and will disappear

Realistic expectations

Some things you see immediately, others build up over days or weeks. Botox, for example, appears gradually, while filler shows more quickly.

We always tell you what to expect and when, and we follow up so we can assess the result together. Should anything feel different from expected, you are always welcome to contact us.

This guide is general and does not replace individual advice. Always tell us about your medication and health at the consultation, so we can plan the treatment safely for you.
